Dennis Phillips
28 Sep 06 - Deyermond noted, "...just learned that our FSM site rep (Dennis Phillips) in NCTP just died of an aneurism in the brain!" TADPOLE replied, "...shocked to here about Dennis Phillips' passing away. I never met him in person, but had dealt with him several times via phone and E-mail as he was my counter point at NCTP. He was a good guy, sorry to see him go."
[Copied on e-mails between Wassel, TADPOLE, and Deyermon above for this information. I did not know him myself. In fact what is NCTP? Can nayone supply more information?]

Dave Blasco; on his Gambling Addiction
Friends hope and offer ...
Dick Wetzel:
Thank you Bob for the info below. Addictions of any kind are hard to break, and take as was said below "Tough Love". I will be praying for someone to come into Dave's life who can help him thru this. We have friends running an AA group that tell us often the difficulty in getting the addict to get to the point where he only has the option to look UP.

Cancer has a deadly connotation but addiction is shame based and is much like the aids stigma. "You caused it - have a good life" but that isn't what needs to be conveyed. "Inner Healing" of emotional wounds has been the most successful way to bring healings of these addictions.

We will be keeping him in our prayers for finding his answer.

Joe Davis;
Your email has confirmed my fear that Dave is in serious trouble. I remain a friend to Dave, and want to help him but don't know what I can do to help him at this point. It seems to me that he could best be helped by entering a good psychotherapy program. I realize that first he needs to WANT to do that, and further that it will be long hard road for him.
Please keep me in the loop on this sad situation with Dave. I am willing to forgive the loan and do whatever I can for Dave. I realize that sending more money is not the answer, but what can I do to help him?
[Joe wired him money 10 Nov 2006]

Jerry Mulvenna:
... I got a call from Dave Blasco. The gambling problem has not gone away. He was stuck in Las Vegas and did not even have gas money to get back to his home. ... In addition, he said that he has to have an operation on his spine.Frankly, I'm worried about him. [Jerry wired him money 01 Dec 2000]

Griff Harrison:
I think that Dave, like an alcoholic does, has first got to admit that he has a gambling problem and that he wants to get rid of the problem.
So Dave's attending Gambler's Anonymous was a step in the right direction but evidently not a big enough step as he didn't stick with it.
Anyway, the next time he calls someone, a first step might be to suggest that he get back into Gambler's Anonymous and try to get his life back on track. Understand that it's easier said than done.

Dick Powers:
Damn!
I can understand, but that doesn't help.
Thanks for keeping us informed. If I hear, I'll be sure to let you know.
I WILL pray for help.

Fritz Collier
19 Dec - Yes, just what can anyone do? I'm here to help, but short of kidnapping him and enslaving him into a 'tough love' boot camp, I'm at a loss. What can we do?
21 Dec - adds:
I spoke about Dave with a friend who has been a recovering gambler for 20+ years. His opinion (and GA) is the addict cannot be helped until the first step of the twelve step program is reached. That is: to recognize that you have a disease and are powerless to it. Bob, I believe this and feel that as much as I would like to help Dave, we are powerless also until Dave surrenders
Jerry Melancon:
... Hope he finds the correct path for the future. Would hate to see another Lynn Williams....In fact, I have not heard from Lynn at all. Hope he is doing ok.
