Bruce Miller - 17 Feb 06
I have Lyme disease that really hit me hard in September and was diagnosed in early October. I wasn't able to really work at all until just before Thanksgiving, and that was only part-time and even then I took off two weeks at Christmas. I started taking I/V antibiotics in January and had a severe Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction a couple of weeks ago that I didn't realize was happening. I thought I had a cold but all kinds of weird things were happening. I also had a reaction to the I/V and my lower lip and cheeks went numb and swelled. I woke up in the morning with a huge lower lip that was really scary looking! Much of what I was going through was due to bacteria dying off faster then my body could get rid of it which is what causes a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction. I also have started a "pulse" therapy where I take a higher dose of the I/V for a few days and then none at all for a few days. My wife has been acting as my nurse and really making it easy on me. I used to think I would be over this disease in no time because I really improved a lot after being treated for six to eight weeks on oral antibiotics but have not made much progress since. I have resigned myself to the fact that I have many more months to go but still optimistic that I will eventually be cured
Bruce gave a brief overview of his past six months plus battle (Feb 06).

Health Reports: In Aug 05 advised that Peggy's breast cancer had returned and spread after her 2004 treatment and apparent recovery. Peggy reported 5th of Aug 05, "…restarted Chemo Therapy today and will have two more sessions, three weeks apart. Then they will retest for the cancer. As of right now, they are pretty confident that it is the Breast Cancer that has returned in other area. Just had a Bone Scan yesterday, but won't have the results on that for a week or so. Hate the idea of loosing my hair again so soon, especially since it came back in all curly this time." In Dec 05 Peggy said, "I've been having Chemo treatments, all fall. They've given me a brief break through the holiday season. So far, the Chemo seems to be working and the tumors continue to shrink. I go back for another set of test the first week in January…" In mid Jan 06 she reports, "I had my Dr appt this afternoon. I fully expected to get bad news after the good news last time. Guess what, the tumors have continued to shrink, without additional Chemo. I'm down to 2 very small ones. In Apr 06 she gives us the good news that, "I'll be walking again this year in memory of Faye and in honor of the many cancer survivors that I've gotten to know over the past two years."
